What are you doing now, Kaia?
I'm sitting on the couch, writing, and hoping my baby doesn't wake up quite yet. And I'm also making a newsletter about moving through the world as an artist and a mom. Welcome.
You know that saying, “Be the change you wish to see in the world?”
Well, I also believe in this saying: “Write the writing you want to see in the world.” I love reading about people’s experiences in parenting. I also love reading about people’s experiences as artists. And I LOVE it when those areas overlap. Often, though, I wind up feeling as though I don’t belong at the table because I hadn’t read the books referenced or heard of such-and-such philosophy or there’s something about the tone that makes me feel like I’m not deep enough, or focused enough, or [insert]-enough. I want to create a space for this overlapping central area of the Venn Diagram, and I want this space to be inviting and easy to read and enjoy. I want this space to be like truffle fries. There’s some fancy in there with the truffle oil, but at the end of the day, they’re fries. And fries are delicious.
Why this? Why now?
Making and Momming is a newsletter about moving through the world as an artist and mom. It’s a place for me to muse, to digress, to share with you a pieces of my heart and my brain. Both being an artist and being a mother can be isolating at times. In creating this space, I hope to dispel some of the loneliness that tags along like a shadow to both of those identities. It’s going to be a cloud-bursting, sun-shiney space. Well, that, and we’ll also talk about some thunder-y, lightning-y things, too, I’m sure. But we’ll do it together, so it won’t be so bad. Thanks for being here.
Who is this for?
Anyone who is interested in making art and/or parenting.
How often will you send out this newsletter?
Expect a newsletter to land in your inbox just about every Monday. I’m putting the “just about” in there because, well, parenting. If the baby must be attended to, the baby must be attended to.
Is this free? How can I support you?
Yes, this newsletter is free. Right now, I am focusing on building a readership. If you know of someone who might enjoy this newsletter, please feel free to share it with them.
Is there anything else I need to know?
Just that I’m so thankful you’re here and I’m excited to get going.
I love reading about people's experiences in parenting and as artists. It's so refreshing to find a space where both worlds overlap. This newsletter seems like a cozy place to share and connect. Marvelous writing! 🌟
