Hello, my wonderful friends! I hope you are doing well. It has been…some time since I last sent a newsletter. Apologies for giving you all the Irish Goodbye, but to be honest, I didn’t know that’s what I was doing until a couple of weeks…then months passed. I had the best of intentions to continue writing weekly, or at least monthly, but once I gave myself permission to just not, I felt good. Great, even.
I will write more about this delicious pause in a future missive, but for now, let me just say that this newsletter is back! But there will be a few changes.
New name/new focus. I’m changing the name from “Making and Momming” to “With Love From My Kitchen Table.” The previous title was feeling a bit too narrow to me. I am a parent and a maker, yes, but I am also so many more things that I may or may not want to write about and share with you. So I decided I needed a title that could convey, well, anything. As for that name? When I write, I am almost always sitting at my beloved kitchen table. It is a place of laughter, good food, and flowing words. Of contemplation, of deep emotion, of mess. When I write from my kitchen table, you’re getting all of it.
New cadence. Not sure what it will be yet! I know that “consistency is key,” but with a young son who is my ultimate focus and joy, providing him and my family with love, support, and my best possible self is the only constant whose maintenance makes sense and is sustainable for me at the moment. I want to write to you, but I want it to be fun, not a chore. So I’m not going to pressure myself to maintain a schedule of posting at this time. Instead, you can enjoy these tiny surprise letters popping up in your inbox from time to time.
I have really been enjoying reading friends’ Substacks and they made me want to join in the conversation! Thank you to all of you creators who share your work and thoughts with us. Have a ‘stack (is that a thing?) you like? Tell me about it! I’d love to discover more thought-provoking, funny, and inspiring work.
Stay tuned for…who knows? Well, I do know the next post, actually, which will be a list of things I’ve loved recently. I’m excited for you to read it! Hope you’re all doing well. Thanks for being here.
With love form my kitchen table,
Kaia
