It all started with a photo of Kathy Bates at some awards ceremony. She looked beautiful and dignified in a shiny suit jacket and with it she wore a smile and comfortable tennis shoes. That, I said to myself, is what I’m going for this year. I screenshotted it and saved it to my photos folder. Like a magpie weaving ribbons and shiny little nothings into a nest, I was plucking pieces of inspiration from the internet to look at and ponder later. I want to share some of them with you, my paid subscribers, here.
As I’ve been collaging these poems and images into this post, just by scrolling through my camera roll and pulling the screenshots in order (I did go further back than Kathy Bates, though!), I’m realizing that this is quite an intimate peek into my headspace. I can see some of my novel research here, some of my musings as a parent and wife, writer and friend, and some of the joyful silliness I’m trying to embrace each day.
Something fun: One of these screenshots is of my grandfather! He’s the smiling man sitting on a cow named Star. :) I hope you find some inspiration/giggles/hope/solace/??? Here! Bon appetit.
